New York’s Metro paper on our food
New York’s version of the Metro paper looks admiringly at our food. It’s just as well we can cook: none of our other institutions is working very well, as Henry Aubin points out. I’d never even heard of the Commission municipale du Québec.

Henry is a bit of a troll. He complains that our police don’t arrest enough citizens, our health care isn’t expensive enough, and Montreal almost got all its tax revenu from its wealthy inner burbs a few years ago. With these kinds of problems…

The Commission municipale has been around for many years. Much of its work is deciding which non-profit organizations get or don’t get tax-free status according to the criteria int he evaluation law. See: http://www.jugements.qc.ca/php/resultat.php?liste=52308253
It also can hear complaints from senior municipal staff who are fired or seriously disciplined, issue decisions on whether members fo city councils can be removed for non-attendance at meetings, etc.
See http://www.cmq.gouv.qc.ca/fr/a-propos-de-la-commission/a-propos-de-la-commission.php for a list of its powers.
