Champlain bridge could crumble: report
Two reports have suggested that the Champlain bridge is in such poor shape that some of it could crumble, and that maintaining it is pretty pointless. Discussions are to follow on how to proceed to replace the bridge, the busiest in Canada; there’s some new money for that.

What the article says is “Dans sa condition actuelle, on peut s’attendre à ce que le pont s’effondre en tout ou en partie ***lors d’un événement sismique significatif.***”

True enough, but we are in an active seismic zone and the bridge has already been found to be in dodgy shape from years of salt water invading its structure. The Japan quake has made everyone a bit more nervous on this point, admittedly.

I agree with William and Kate: I don’t think it’s a good idea to build a nuclear power plant on the Champlain Bridge at this point.
