Ahuntsic mayor quits Projet Montréal
One of Projet Montréal’s two borough mayors is bailing on the party. Pierre Gagnier of Ahuntsic has decided to sit as an independent over a council consisting of one Projet, one Vision, and two Union Montreal reps. Gagnier says he has no beef with Richard Bergeron but thinks he can do his job better without party affiliation. In a three-sentence item, the Gazette says “Gagnier said he will make up him mind based on what is best for most Montrealers.” (Deathless prose lost in a later update.)

Gagnier was first elected to Council as part of Pierre Bourque’s gang in 1994 and became a member of the Executive Committee responsible for economic development (s9c.) Most noted for suggesting that the remains of the Queen’s Hotel should be taken down because “it looked ugly from my taxi.” He later resigned from Bourque’s Vision when a lot of rats were leaving the sinking ship.
