New city flag #3

Reader thomas reminded me in comments below that three items on the city’s flag refer to the UK: the rose, the thistle and the St George’s Cross, which have no place any more in our culture. This leaves the shamrock and fleur-de-lys and plenty of room for the theoretical aboriginal element. I have a feeling nobody’s going to want the shamrock hanging around making a nuisance of itself, so here’s my latest esquisse:

The white and blue refer to Quebec, and also to the river and to snow. The feather, the native element, also refers to Montreal being an island. The fleur-de-lys recalls to us the first statement in the city charter: Montréal est une ville de langue française.
