Tenants protest too-slow rental board response
Tenants protested at the rental board Thursday for more heating in their apartments and a faster response to tenant complaints generally, saying that the board is too slow to act in cases where a tenant’s well-being is at risk.

Are there still apartments where the landlord pays the heat? Sweet!

Lots of buildings with old-fashioned central furnaces and boilers with radiators still exist. Not sweet if greedy landlords won’t fire them up, though.

Have you guys got your heat on? I don’t turn mine on before November. If it’s really cold I’ll just use a space heater where I need it.

I don’t, but I’m pretty spartan generally. My windows are open now and I expect I won’t close them this week, unless that tropical storm brings horizontal rain to town.

Steven, you have an insurance policy that allows space heaters? I’ve yet to see one policy that allows them.

Ephraim, I have your standard tenants’ package and it says nothing either way about space heaters. I don’t use one, but if I lived in an older apartment building with poor insulation and a cheap landlord unwilling to stoke the furnace, I might.
