Central city plans end run around boroughs
The central city, in the person of Michael Applebaum, wants to force boroughs to offer uniform services to citizens no matter what their ideology, this being a thinly veiled hit at the Plateau for gently trying to shake loose the primacy of the car in their eminently walkable streets.

If he really wants to have a say in how things are run in the Plateau, perhaps he should try and get elected here.

If Montreal were equally urbanized that might make sense, but he must be an idiot to think Mile-End’s needs are the same as those of Dollard-des-Ormeaux.

What Applebaum means of course is equal services for services he and his party thinks are important, namely car-related. Will all those streets in the west island without sidewalks get sidewalks? Will all the non-central areas without bikeways or bixis get some? Of course not.

applebaum is in the news an awful lot these days.
i’m going to pay to get into the next pq fundraiser featuring pauline marois, and i’m going to bring up demergers with her personally. in a marriage this disfunctional, i think it’s clear that the city and the island suburbs need to go their separate ways. then, shorn of their reactionary pull, we’ll mete out our justice, sweet and terrible.

I think it’s a good idea. Boroughs need to learn how to work with the “Ville-centre” and accept their subordination. Politicians with grand ideas should work to getting elected into the office that will enable them to realize them, not engage in petty tit-for-tat games that achieve nothing more than complicating people’s lives and wasting public money.

William, what complicates one person’s life makes another’s easier.
