Peter McQueen accused of ethical peccadillo
The Empress Theatre seems to be turning into a tar pit. Projet councillor Peter McQueen has been accused of an ethical misstep in connection with the project by revealing details of a city document to people outside city hall. McQueen says he was fighting to keep the project at the service of citizens; he appears to have provoked the ferocious enmity of Messrs. Rotrand and Applebaum.

Those three have been squabbling for quite some time.

Seems to be turning into a tar pit? Hasn’t that thing been a quagmire for the past 20 years at least?

I meant a metaphorical tar pit, like the tar baby, you know – a thing that spreads sticky stuff onto anyone it touches.
The actual site has been in decline for just about 20 years. It shut down as Cinema V in 1992.

I notice that McQueen is not denying the misdeed, instead he’s stating that people in the party that’s accusing him have done worse. I find that to be a disappointing response by McQueen.

Poor NDG-CDN. They really have a way of electing the worst politicians in that part of town, either they’re overly self-righteous, self-important or, even worse, both. It’s probably the worst-governed borough in the city.

I disagree with Jake. CDN-NDG has a council that’s pulling in two directions, which is bound to frustrate some. And they’re coping with the major construction site of the MUHC and its many implications. Considering that, they’re not doing too badly.

The Gazette’s version of the McQueen story. McQueen’s supporters on Facebook think this is a bid by Union’s Rotrand and Applebaum to deflect attention from the corruption scandal onto a Projet councillor. Still, it’s a warning to both opposition parties to keep their asses more than usually covered if Union is looking for even the most trivial of procedural issues to blow up into counter-scandals.
