Impressionist show about to open
A quick preview of the show of Impressionist works about to open at the Museum of Fine Arts.
It must be just a bit annoying for museum operators to know that if they want a sure thing, just stick a few Renoirs up and the public will troop in.

Why would that be annoying?

Because a lot of things have happened since then in the art world, and curators can come up with all kinds of gimmicks and modern shows and postmodern shows and multimedia shows – but to get the folks in, just hang up a few Impressionists. Works every time. You can’t educate them past Monet.

I suspect there are other shows that would get them in — I imagine a group of big name Renaissance art would — but a lot of them don’t travel like the Impressionists can. If you’re expected to spend 20$ a ticket, you want art you know you will enjoy/appreciate.

They’ve been trying Snoopy, fashion designers, and Alfred Hitchcock. A few impressionists are like old friends.
