Doctor shortage: suburbanites also use our MDs
Montreal may be getting more doctors, but one doctor at the city’s health agency points out that Montreal doctors spend time looking after suburbanites too, which isn’t counted by the Quebec health ministry as part of their job.

61 doctors is totally absurd. I doubt if it is even enough to absorb the increase in population. The quality of service will not improve. When can we hope to have a reasonable number of immigrant doctors, like most other advanced countries faced with the same problem?

Radio Canada did a piece explaining why France has a Doctor for every family and emergency rooms only used for emergencies. In France (per cap) their are twice as many Doctors making half the salary of ours. Our Doctors control supply by limiting access to the profession it is the way they want it.

GPs in France also work weekends. (Mostly, of course, the ones with less seniority.)

Jack, there are doctors amongst my family and friends, and trust me they don’t “want it” as you describe at all. They work long hours and wish there were more doctors to lessen the load.
