yes, I felt it…and ironically I was just writing in my journal how a half decent earthquake would reduce the building i’m living in to rubble, along with half the other mafia constructed apartment houses in the city…
Woke me up. Sent my cat scurrying. Felt like an earthquake, but I didn’t know we got them here so my brain rationalized it as a big truck going up the street. Great sound!
Yep, my neighbours too. Not as rare as we think. I think that’s two in eight years. The EarthquakesCanada site says it was a 4.5 in Longueil (http://www.earthquakescanada.nrcan.gc.ca/index-eng.php)
PS I love how there is a thing called Earthquakes Canada.
yes.. we live in Pointe Claire and felt very strong push…. even the walls were bouncing … we were frozen for a while but then everything calmed down…still, weird feeling…
I felt it too. I’m also in Villeray, in an upper duplex. It felt like a large snowplow & truck combo and lasted a good 10 seconds. I knew Mtl is in a somewhat active zone but I’ve never felt one before. A bit scary. The neighbours across the street felt it too.
I’m in Repentigny and it woke me up. I’m used to the shakes because of the train tracks but this was much louder and caused things to fall in my china cabinet!
Yeah, that was quite long too. I’m surprised there isn’t more damage. It was weird compared to other quakes I’ve been in, more like intense vibrating then shaking.
Felt it in Sainte Jean Sur Richelieu…scared the shit out of me and the dog. LOL. Thought I was going nuts for a second. Funny thing, we recently moved from Victoria…which is where I should have felt an earthquake, as it’s in an “earthquake zone”……phew…glad that’s done with though!
I live in st constant Quebec south shore 4 klms from mercier bridge, I was just falling asleep and woke up scarred , first I heard a loud bang like someone falling in my house , then the bedroom was shaking followed by the whole house it was very scary. It lasted about 10 seconds. Very scary my daughter woke up too asking what just happened .
it was so scary, my mind cannot think anything else but how it felt like when the floor seem like FALLING DOWN…it started w/ the big BANG, sounds like sth very heavy suddenly dropped onto the GROUND FROM UP HIGH, then the floor just start shaking like crazy and loud noise coming from underground… first i thot sth went wrong in subway cuz i live above the Orange line in NDG, then everything on my table were viberating and the wall shaking as well, i can’t believe what’s happening, this is a concrete building ,…then a second BANG, and everything keep shaking a few secs more, it stopped…i’m new in Montreal, i’m worried if Montreal’s a earthquake city like some on the west coast?! but just read thru the news make me feel earthquake is getting common in many major cities these past few years…is 2012 really coming?
I’m down in the Old Port. Was woken from a sound sleep by what felt and sounded like two explosions, not the usual rumbling shaking of an earthquake. Weird.
Cherry, Montreal is in a seismically active zone but not a major one. It means we get the occasional 4-ish quake every few years or so. I can remember 4 or 5 small quakes spread out over years, but never any serious damage, so don’t worry.
I heard it too, I live in Vimont, Laval. it terrified me at first, then when so no one in my neighborhood looking out, wondered if it was just a nightmare. then worried it would happen again.

If that was a 3.9/4.5, I really don’t want to know what a 7.0 is like.
