A call for housing for women
Quel Avenir’s guest blogger today calls for more social housing for girls and women, particularly to protect younger women from being forced into prostitution. The comments are mostly saying “Yes, but for men too!”

Why don’t we just hand them application forms for McDonalds so they can pay their own rent? They are always hiring and then they can contribute taxes to society rather than be a parasite. If they can’t get that job maybe they are better off being prostitutes. It is not like this plan would end prostitution in any case.

No of course you’re right. Let’s pimp them out – they can make more money as whores than flipping burgers. How unreasonably idealistic to think otherwise.

Yes, I too have understand that teenagers live on the streets and work as prostitutes because they are too lazy to work at McDo, not because of any more systematic problems. And of course since more social housing wouldn’t end all prostitution, what’s the point of doing anything at all? I’m not sure why we have cops, since having them doesn’t end all crime.

I think erydan just made one of the most incredibly insensitive posts I’ve ever seen on this blog and is now reaping his justly earned ridicule. No offense to idiots, but erydan, you sound like an idiot.

It’s a remarkably “pure” version of statements that we regularly hear whenever we speak about social welfare of any kind. I feel like many people share it, its just that most know to couch their language.
I consider it a right wing mentality, but as a left wing idealist I don’t know if that’s actually fair.
