STM worker’s sign becomes news

A sign spotted in the ticket booth at Villa-Maria metro station – “Au Québec c’est en français que ça se passe!” – caused a bit of a stir this week when a client spotted it and complained to the STM. It wasn’t an official statement – wrong font, for starters – but the STM continues to stand on the law that its workers have no obligation to speak any language but French. Kristian also has an entry about this, pointing out the conflict between this principle and the other STM policy that workers need to be polite with the public. It’s not clear from the La Presse piece whether the sign is still in place.
