Jacques Cartier monument is back
The monument to Jacques Cartier that’s the centrepiece of a classic park in Saint-Henri has been refurbished and is back. It dates from 1893. None of the few press images is very impressive so here’s one from before the restoration.

Here’s a picture I took before the restoration showing why the statue needed some work – two of Cartier’s fingers had been ripped off, making him look more like a Motörhead fan than a French explorer:
