Nicolas Girard, André Lavallée get new jobs
The defeated PQ candidate in Gouin gets a nice consolation prize: he’s to be named czar of the AMT.
Meanwhile, Mayor Tremblay is losing one of his valued cronies: André Lavallée is joining the Quebec municipal affairs ministry as under-minister. La Presse says J-F Lisée recruited him specifically.

I am hearing some chatter that while Lavallée is not Mr. Charisma, he really does know Montreal well and it will help the city to have him in the Marois government.
Not sure about the AMT nomination. People liked Nicolas Girard in Gouin and I heard several people – not committed PQ voters – say they would’ve supported him had Françoise David not made such a strong case for herself. I have a feeling running the AMT is kind of a thankless task though.

While highest-ranking bureaucrats in any given dept. in the U.S. are called under-seceretaries, I think Canadian nomenclature would suggest Lavallée is a deputy minister, though under-minister has a nice ring to it.

You may be right. I’ve been listening to BBC radio so much on the web that British terminology may be creeping in.

@kate: In this case, it’s not a matter of British terminology creeping in, it’s a matter of a Gallicism (influence from the French) creeping into the English as used in the Province of Quebec.
Under-ministers just don’t exist anywhere, unless it happens to be in the land of bad translation.

@Kate I have had dealings with both Girard and Lavallee and I have to say I was impressed by both.Lavallee when he was borough mayor in Rosemount actually invited myself and 4 others to talk about the problems surrounding the Jean Talon market…….. for 4 hours on a Saturday, that impressed me.Even more he then delievered, by the way soon someone in the english media will mention his FLQ links as a 19 year old, I assure you he is over it.
