Pieces on the Metropolis shooting

I was expecting to disagree with this Le Devoir piece headlined that “we are all responsible” for the Metropolis attack, but it’s a good piece, a talk with an intellectual psychologist who thinks our society is depending too much on symbols, on reducing complicated situations to one or two signs or slogans, and then ceasing to think. The irony is that this comes at a time when the internet means more people have access to more information than ever in history. (Of course, avoiding information and sticking to old ideas right now makes us patriotic Canadians if less good Québécois.)

Also simmering in the news has been the story of Yves Desgagnés, who says he found security at the Metropolis lacking but was brushed off, and another story (links when I find them again) of a man who found a website threatening Pauline Marois but was also brushed off.
