One old photo I like
Very struck by this one Flickr photo of a row of houses that no longer exists, on the south side of Saint-Norbert; it was an empty lot for years afterwards, shading down into a parking lot for the police station on Ontario Street, and now it’s a row of identical condo buildings:

Does anyone have any information on that nice house at the end of St-Norbert on the corner of Hôtel de ville, it seems out of place now…

I know the one you mean, it’s a kind of elegant small mansion in a style at odds with what’s around it. No, I don’t know its history, but there are a couple of folks on flickr who might. I’ll ask.

That whole Flikr set is amazing. Too bad about that row of buildings on St. Norbert. I also know the house @Charles mentions and have wondered about it too. Seems very out of place but also very well kept.

Strange, but using IE, when your page opens, it scrolls immediately down to the Google map. It’s a strange default.

Annoying! Might be something to do with how IE handles javascript.
My only advice would be: don’t use IE.

I went through some newspaper archives and wrote a short piece on the demolition of St-Norbert for Spacing Montreal a few years ago. http://spacingmontreal.ca/2009/05/30/what-happened-to-rue-st-norbert/

Very cool, C_Erb, and lots of good info in the comments, too.
