Evolo Condos in Montreal
Protesters are threatening to cut down a tree on Mount Royal to get attention about clear-cutting deforestation on aboriginal and national park lands.
Blork, Kate, steph, and 5 others are discussing. Toggle Comments
Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Well, kids these days seem to be big on the idea of initiating protests that only harm themselves. Apparently the concept of “leverage” in protest and negotiation is completely unknown to them.
… and if that doesn’t work, they’ll douse the whole park with lighter fluid and burn it down, so held them God.
Massive hating of everything that’s young seems to unite a lot of people in Québec these days. End of the poor good old days, eh Blork?
And to think only a few years ago everyone was moaning about how those darn kids were all lazy and uninvolved and didn’t believe in anything.
Why is the focus here on ‘kids’ when it’s clearly about natives trying to highlight ‘this is what you do in our backyard, how would you like it if we did it in yours?’ They didn’t cut any down from the park, they brought their own felled tree to chainsaw into pieces as a display.
steph is right, it was not a youth protest – in fact there were native elders there, and no damage was done. And now we know there’s clear-cutting going on in provincial (“national”) parks, which kind of negates the main purpose of parks, it seems to me. I’ll have links to some more complete reporting tomorrow.
Since when is a comment on tactics equivalent to “massive hating?” Thanks for the knee-jerk reaction.
