Luc Ferrandez risks his seat
Luc Ferrandez has missed so many council meetings at city hall that he risks losing his seat. Or at least Marvin Rotrand appears to be working himself up to punishing the Plateau mayor.

It’s like that recurring dream about high school I keep having where it’s finals and I’ve skipped all my classes. I like Ferrandez, mostly – except for the refusing to commemorate Richler thing, really. He’s got a decent vision of how the borough could be if managed with a bigger view in mind. It would be a shame to see his legacy be one of simply not giving a heck after all.

I loved what Bergeron said about sitting in the council with people who have never spoken, watch movies on their laptops and chat during meetings.

He’s one of the hardest-working politicians I’ve ever met. He responds in person to his emails and he has an overview of his borough. In the city council his party has almost zero power, so I guess he’s got his priorities right. Maybe that’s what makes him many enemies among politicians, because they are exposed as lazy?

Whether he attends meetings or not, there’ve been definite improvements in greenery in the Plateau with him as mayor and I’d vote for him again in a by-election.

I go to borough council meetings pretty regularly, and Ferrandez is great! He concentrates his time and energy at the borough level, because that’s where he can get things done. But this makes him look bad, and that’s important too. He should show up at Central City often enough to at least not be last on the attendance record.

Projet Montréal thinks they know what Marvin Rotrand is trying to distract attention from (Youtube link).

Rotrand better hope the PQ doesn’t get its way with the French test for public office, or he may lose his seat too!

All the skipping meetings and the hole covered with a metal plate on Prince Arthur at duBullion is going on how many years now? Maybe we should put a memorial plaque to Richler on the steel plate, it seems pretty permanent.

Doesn’t take long for the new, well-intentioned party to turn into the weasely, lazy and self-congratulating party.

Peter McQueen says on Facebook: I find Montreal city council meetings the dreariest, most depressing and futile part of my job, and here is why: the Tremblay-Rotrand-Applebaum administration, with its silent acquiescent backbenchers like Loyola city councillor Susan Clarke and Tony Tomassi’s wife Clementina Tito-Tomassi, just ram through contracts and regulations that don’t solve the problems of my NDG constituents.
It’s quite possible that it’s a categorical waste of time for borough mayors to go to most city council meetings, but unfortunately for Ferrandez he’s not allowed to make that determination unilaterally. I do not think this means he’s lazy – far from it. More likely the meetings either bore or enrage him.
