Olympic village residents lose again in court
Residents of the ziggurat-like Olympic Village have lost another stage in their court challenge to a developer who plans to cover the green space behind their buildings with eight condo towers.
What’s left unclear about this story, and would be interesting to know, is how public land intended for a park in the 1970s is legally in the hands of a developer today.

It’s not public land, and it’s not green space. It’s the old Olympic Village’s parking lots.

Sure looks like green space in the La Presse photo.

The current phases are built on the parking lot just east of that photo. You can look it up on google maps: https://maps.google.ca/?ll=45.57002,-73.554904&spn=0.002171,0.003846&t=h&z=18

There’s too much empty space around the Olympic Village. Whether it’s green or asphalt doesn’t matter because few people use it. That area is not developped at all for pedestrians. Crossing Sherbrooke and walking to the metro from the Olympic Village is particularly unpleasant. What the area needs is wider sidewalks and medium density infill, not a big empty lawn.
