Pricey poubelles for Quartier des spectacles
Fancy new poubelles at $2400 each will grace the Quartier des spectacles as of next summer. Karim Benessaieh notes that despite the high price they’re not high-tech and won’t be connected to the $8-million pneumatic trash collection system which isn’t working yet either.

Whether it’s actually going to be the case or not, I do buy the theoretical argument that you need to spend money to buy quality things that will last in situations of heavy usage.

Yes, up to a point. But I think Gilbert Rozon has some hold over Gérald Tremblay to the extent of making him spend silly money on the Quartier des spectacles. I’m sure they could’ve found decent sturdy poubelles in some big catalogue of municipal doodads for a lot less, but no, the poubelle has to be reinvented by a high-end industrial designer then crafted by hand out of virgin aluminum by skilled artisans.
