What’s with the CF-18 flyovers?
Earlier this afternoon I saw a single CF-18 fly over Villeray, and just now a pair of them cut across the sky also on a roughly southwestern heading. No, I don’t keep a sky watch, and Villeray’s under a flight path anyway, but you can’t mistake the scream of those engines for the rumble of a passenger jet.
Anyone know why these planes have been spotted over Montreal this summer? (There were more reports earlier on, and today was the first time I’ve seen any in awhile.)

Nascar? They go for that sort of thing.

That might be it.

at 15:00 I saw two of them flying near the Jaques Cartier Bridge. They were coming towards the city from St-Hubert and U-turned over the river. VERY LOUD.

A tweet confirms it was a flyby for the NASCAR race.
I guess I’ll sound a bit wet-blankety to wonder why an auto race merits this kind of thing. Not as if it were a military exercise or some other event connected with the forces – a memorial or whatever. Is it just sort of “people excited by fast things powered by hydrocarbons will enjoy seeing another fast thing powered by hydrocarbons”?

I woudn’t be surprised if there were flybys (sp?) at most, if not all automobile races in the US, especially Nascar… I wonder if the event actually pays to get these to happen though?
