Campaign bits for Friday
François Legault has ruled out participating in a minority government coalition, so if we get a minority government on September 4, possible with the vote going three ways, he says we’ll have another general election soon after. Paul Wells looks at the even worse picture of Marois just barely squeaking a majority. But there are still 2½ weeks to go, and that’s an eternity in politics.

There’s no way any party would be dumb enough to provoke another election shortly after this one (in a minority situation). Whoever gets blamed for it will get annihilated. Look at what happened in Ontario recently – lots of brinksmanship but in the end the Liberals and the NDP reached a deal. Legault is just bluffing to get more votes.

Short memory. Charest was elected in 2007 to the first minority government in Quebec in decades. Another general election was called in 2008.

No, it’s not a short memory, we’re talking about two different time scales. A year and a half is probably the minimum you could get away with, but Legault sounds like he’s threatening an election within a matter of months. Not gonna happen.

Why would it be “worse”? Because frogs would have a government that is aiming towards their interests first???

The Klan always voted Southern Democrat, and the Anglos of Montreal always voted Liberal. And both parties looked with suspicion at any other options.
