Olympic park art: the coda
This Journal de Rosemont piece offers a somewhat more detailed story about that André Desjardins sculpture and the Olympic Park.
I’m betting the artist and/or his agent saw this as a way of getting rid of a big piece they couldn’t sell, plus some free publicity, and park management saw it as getting a freebie for the price of installation. It was only because a lot of artists squawked that the plan didn’t go through. Anyway, Desjardins has withdrawn the offer.
It should be interesting to see what process is put in place to choose a piece of art for the area (which was promised a replacement for the yoinked La Joute fountain more than five years ago) and what the results are.

Good riddance. I didn’t like the piece. Maybe something having to do with sport? I don’t know.

Not sure here whether you mean the proposed Desjardins piece, or La Joute.
If a sports-related piece, it would have to be pretty abstracted. I don’t think we want a bronze soccer player out there, but something conceptually representing grace and speed would be nice. There’s already a statue of Maurice Richard outside his arena, if you want something strictly representative.

Yeah, I meant the Desjardins piece. It looks like the bowsprits on the front of pirate ships. And I think we agree on what the sport piece should be like. Maurice Richard statue isn’t super-nice either.
