New pedestrian space: one block
Fair bit of news about the Rue Publique pedestrianization project Gilford en vacances.
Nice, but Gilford between Saint-Denis and Rivard is one block. It’s a nice distinctive block, lined with small businesses, that leads from Saint-Denis to Laurier metro, but this underlines how pedestrians are having to fight for their space block by block. (I’m fully expecting the area covered by this year’s “car-free day” day to be even smaller than last year’s, too.)

Yes, it’s a small step. But being next to a metro station means there are lots of pedestrians, so the merchants are probably in favour, instead of having their knickers in a knot.
