Masked protesters greet mask ban talks

Masked protesters came to city hall Wednesday for discussions on the mayor’s hasty mask ban, which Radio-Canada says went badly, with most critics saying the proposed law infringes on fundamental liberties and gives police too much leeway, and La Presse says was torn to pieces in the course of discussions. Projet Montréal is on record as being against it, Richard Bergeron saying that police already have enough methods at their disposal.

A scantily-dressed demo is under way downtown, leaving from the usual gathering point – Berri Square.

Jean Charest is currently passing a special law expected to clamp down on civil disobedience and reinstate classes. Tweets are saying that schools will resume the winter semester in August and start the fall session in October.
