Too many people getting hurt. Now is the time to end the strike and go back to school.

“We’ll do whatever you say, just don’t hurt us,” is what democracy sounds like?

“We’ll stop being violent, just give us what we want,” is that what democracy sounds like?

Democracy is what?
I guess for some its lets keep acting like spoiled brats and hooligans and then we will make everyone else bow down to our whims…

the people getting hurt here are being hurt by policemen, and are journalists, not protesters. I’m really not sure what the incredibly partisan sniping is achieving, it sounds like the right wing legion around here is sticking their fingers in their years and yelling I CAN’T HEAR YOU every time anyone gives them even clear photographic evidence that maybe the violence isn’t coming (solely) from the students. I’m not really sure there’s any point to reading a blog’s comments if they’re just an assortment of blindered op-eds that have nothing at all to do with the seed story.

Ian, I know. I’ve been wavering on closing commenting down until some kind of social peace is achieved, but I would miss comments from many of the regulars too much to do that without considerable thought.

Kate, violence is not a left/right issue. Everyone who wishes to exercise power uses violence in one way or another. This includes the powerless seeking power as well as those who already have power.
