Montreal sees good tourism numbers in 2011
Montreal had its best tourism numbers since 1976 in 2011. It also has a good reputation internationally according to an entity known as the Reputation Institute. The Journal ascribes the city’s rise in profile to Arcade Fire and also tracks its numbers on a dozen rating systems.
A Journal columnist also watches Anthony Bourdain praising the city and asks why we don’t capitalize more on our culinary chops. Bourdain appears in these travel channel videos about the city.

It did me a world of good to watch Radio Canada lead with this story, Montreal seems to be perpetually framed by Quebecor media as a North American version of Kabul. In my eyes this is becoming increasingly more dangerous. TVA of course didn’t report the story and on its website, where Montreal is lumped in with the regions the lead was ” St. Columban demands a moratorium on Hydro-Quebec meters”, Montreal came in three stories down with, ” Parents furious ,school closes because of mole infestation”. Can this be any more obvious?

Did they really say mole infestation? Are they coming up through the floors?

Jack mistyped. A school building in Villeray is being closed because of the presence of mould which may take up to two years to clean out. A radio report I heard said the building is 85 years old.

…though I find humourous the imagery of schoolchildren being chased out the front door by a labour of moles…

I had to check that word, but “labour” is indeed the word for a herd of moles.

Actually, I knew it was mould but I could’nt resist MBs’ image
