Occupy Montreal continues
Although some cities are losing patience, Montreal continues to be mild-mannered toward the Occupy movement that’s settled into Victoria Square, although I suspect this may be as much because they know winter will do their work for them eventually as because city hall is keen on their presence.
Inevitably, a separatist group is planning a march to more or less hijack the movement to its cause, although Occupy is loose enough in its aims that it’s difficult to speak seriously of hijacking.

Part of it might have to do with the fact that nobody lives within a couple blocks of Square Victoria, unlike other cities where the occupations are often right on the doorstep of condo developments.

The 1% (and wannabes) don’t like seeing tents from their windows.

Have they turned into a soup kitchen for the homeless, or are the homeless being turned away?

Everyone is served at the kitchen. There have been issues after midnight with people who have been turned away from shelters ending up in the area. The movement has people to ensure safety for everyone. I believe there is often a “street nurse” on duty as well as four or five occupiers to keep an eye out.
