One borough giveth, another taketh away
The Schubert Pool on the Main will not be closing, although the Plateau is hiking the cost of parking permits to help pay for it. Meantime, Sud-Ouest announced plans to shut down the adult part of the Little Burgundy library, which in turn is causing some outcry.

No doubt many will now complain about vignettes going from $75 to $140. I can’t believe they are that cheap! That’s way way below market prices. Compare to what it costs to park in a privately-owned space.
Motorists have it good. Taxpayers subsidize their parking down to free or near-free.

This obviously does annoy me, having a car as I do for my occasional trips out of Montreal, but on the flip side, it will make it easier to find a park in winter. I don’t really think you can compare street parking to reserved and secured private parking (e.g., my former carpark underneath Sherbrooke metro station cost $120/month, but included 24 hour access, a guaranteed spot, a security guard etc).
In return for doubling the parking permit, the Plateau needs to do more to kick the STM intro providing better public transport – anyone who has to take the Parc, St-Urbain, St-Laurent, Beaubien, Van Horne, Cote-Ste-Catherine and Edouard-Montpetit services know that they are completely unreliable. Parc in particular has become practically unusable these last few weeks.
