Following Thursday’s grim vehicle attack in Barcelona, La Presse reports on means taken by events here this summer to block vehicles from surging into areas where people congregate for pleasure. It’s not the first report on local festivals deploying concrete blocks for this purpose.

Women in face coverings may be denied access to transportation as “people giving or receiving a service from the state” may be reinterpreted to possibly include public transit. Even the PQ didn’t take things this far.

I wonder if this also applies to wearing a balaclava, ski mask, or scarf over your face in winter months. Or if it applies to men.

Most people will pull down a scarf when they board a bus, no? And you don’t see many balaclavas in the city streets.

Almost every winter cyclist wears a balaclava.

And don’t forget motorcycle helmets with dark visors, an of course… Haloween masks.

I actually do wear a half-face ski mask when there’s a real howler out, and generally pull down my scarf after I’m seated or strap-hanging. While boarding my main goal is to swipe my card. Which kind of begs the point, unless you have a photo ID metro pass, why would it matter if your face is uncovered or not?

      Ian, that’s an excellent point.

All this time, La Ronde’s classic carousel has had one horse featuring an indigenous man’s head in a bag, like a war trophy. They’ve removed it.

Yikes, I know the one – I interpreted it as a decorative cameo, & didn’t realize it was supposed to represent a trophy!

I prefer to ride the cats on that carousel, myself.
