The SPVM has issued a 25-page guide to securing festival gatherings from possible terrorist attacks. Concrete blocks to deter vehicle attacks are said to be a big part of their plan, but it doesn’t seem the document is available to the public. TVA link plays video.

I would hope its not supplied to the public to be honest.

If it’s been sent to festival operators it can’t be top secret. I imagine most of it is common sense.

I went to the Jazz fest twice this weekend. I dislike the idea of having my bag searched but I couldn’t help but notice how useless the searches were. Both times they just a glance in my bag to only see a sweater at the top and had me move on without any question to what was underneath.

The bag searches are just to check to see if you’re bringing in your own alcohol, so that they can tell you to toss it and buy drinks from a vendor within the bounds of the festival.

@PO, That’s a complete lie. They actually only screen for glass bottles. They’ll let you bring in any alcool if it’s in a plastic bottle. If it’s glass, they’ll pour it for you in plastic cups at the gate. I work inside what is now the Quartier des Spectacles and go through those gates 6-7 times a day. No one is told to toss their alcool ever. Been like that for at least 20 years and counting.
I really don’t understand how we keep hearing that urban legend about the Jazz fest banning outside booze even though it never happened to anybody. I’ve seen it happen at St-Jean Baptiste shows in parc Maisonneuve back in the days and also at the Grand Prix. Jazz fest has never had that policy (and neither has the Francofolies).

DavidH is right – it’s only about glass bottles. I carry around a metal water bottle all the time and they’ve never had an issue with that. I’ve also had cans of beer in my bag from the dep (when I was just passing through the festival site) and there was no problem.

It’s one of the cyclic news stories here: abandoned stuff on sidewalks after Moving Day.
