The Claude Robillard centre is showing the entire Olympic games on two big TV screens and, I believe, for free.
The Olympic flame has been lit at the stadium.

Once again this weekend the Jacques-Cartier bridge is down to one lane each way while the second half of the road surface is repaved. I was on the bridge Friday night for the Italian fireworks, so I can tell you they’ll have the east side open while working on the west side this weekend.
It was kind of interesting to see how they’d repainted the lines. Every so often a dot had been placed on the fresh paving. I think someone must use a laser sight to draw out the correct line, placing a dot every so often, and then the guy driving the line-painting vehicle follows them.
The human rights commission will have to consider the story of the 12-year-old girl removed from a bus by STM workers after a request to a driver for information went badly.
Apropos a more recent incident reported by an Impact player with the STM, I’m wondering whether the girl made the fatal error of addressing the driver in English.
Bus drivers are there to drive a bus. Not to deal with complicated social issues.
Perhaps the girl’s pestering made it dangerous to drive. In this case, it’s best she was ejected in order to save the other passengers from a fiery death.
For someone who’s usually so skeptical of authority, this is a really puzzling stance for you to take, qatzelok.
Da Gryptions have a new bilingual hip-hop anthem to Montreal.
Two years ago there was an arson attempt at an allegedly mob-connected funeral home. Three suspects were nabbed and are about to be sentenced, but why they did it and under whose orders remains a mystery to the authorities.
Globe and Mail looks back at Luka Magnotta’s 2005 sentencing for fraud, back when he was still Eric Newman. The Gazette says Magnotta wants to keep certain facts under wraps about academic research on sex workers that he may have participated in, and that may raise some interesting legal points about confidentiality.

I wonder if the lighting of all past-venue Olympic flames is the norm and/or is required. If not, it could make for an interesting addition to Olympic protocol.

I think it’s just that any city that’s hosted the Games has the right to do so if they like. I’ll ask around.

OK, according to this article, which starts talking about Atlanta’s situation but then gets more general, in theory the IOC is meant to give specific permission to cities to relight their Olympic flames, but in practice they do what they like with them.
