There was an arrest on Monday in the Laval homicide on the weekend; the Richelieu flood waters continue to rise and more army guys are being brought in to help; a motorist knocked down a pedestrian on Pie-IX and very nearly killed him; another man died in an apartment fire.

A crowd estimated at 500 gathered Monday at the Pied du courant to remember the Lower Canada rebellion. Gilles Duceppe was notable for his absence.

Interesting piece about a man originally from Senegal who has set out to help immigrants use bicycles to feel more at home here and fit in better. And he has a website.

In response to a reader who mentioned that my subtle colour scheme for links was difficult for him because of his colour-blindness, I’ve added hover underlines to all links. Please drop me a line if you find this change creates some unforeseen problem.

The original user was quite happy with my solution. I don’t want permanent bold links or underlines on the page anyway – it ruins the look.

I am colour blind as well and have had problems accessing your links. But I don’t see any hover underlines. Are they working today?

Which OS, which browser? I am on a Mac and find they work in Safari but not in Camino.
Bugger. Back to the drawing board.

Thanks. I’m using Firefox on Windows. However, I just tried with IE and the underlining works great. So it’s just on Mozilla, it would seem?

The underlining works fine here in Mozilla Firefox 4.0.1/Ubuntu 11.04 (good improvement btw)

It helps in the sense that people can sweep their cursor across the text to find the link that way. This is Kate’s place and style is important to her (agreed that bolding and underlining of links can also be confusing). Plus, just because *I* have a problem doesn’t mean everyone else without one should have to adapt. It’s a good compromise.

Long weekend news, and I’m straying off the island to find headlines: a hairdresser’s shop in the Plateau was firebombed early Sunday; a man under the influence fell off some part of Mount Royal and tumbled 20 meters – injured but not killed – ; two SQ officers, ex-lovers, had a bad scene on the South Shore – one died, the other is injured; there was also a slaying in Laval; I don’t follow the fights but it seems to be generally remarked on that a 46-year-old boxer beat an age record to win the middleweight title in Montreal on Saturday; high winds are worsening the flood situation in the Richelieu valley.

It’s a barbershop, not a hairdresser’s.

Wouldn’t hover underlines not solve the basic issue, though?
Before, someone with colour-blindness would have to scan the whole paragraph with the cursor to find out where the linked text was (cursor changes when over a link.) Now, that person would still have to scan the whole paragraph until he found the underline appears.
Maybe a good, but subtle solution would be having links in bold text, and keep the hover underline.
