    A study from Toronto reported in the Guardian UK says that being bilingual staves off Alzheimers for on average four years. More people in Montreal must have this advantage than many places. I wonder how it’s panning out here statistically.

    The coroner has ruled on the death of Matthew Besner just before Christmas. It was an accident: there were no signs of violence, he was drunk but had taken no other drugs and he died of hypothermia. More on the ruling in the Gazette, where emphasis is put on the link between alcohol and hypothermia. One feels for Besner’s family and friends, but it isn’t logical to insist there must have been foul play when the man was found with $200 on him.

    As a reader notes in a comment below, the design for the new metro cars has been decided although now they want a name for them too. (I haven’t embedded the video because it’s a tad noisy.) More from La Presse and the Gazette.

      Finally, a design that won’t fill with snow like the previous green boxes, and won’t fall apart like those ridiculous baskets.

    City hall’s council chamber has a crucifix which the city is determined to keep, both Union and Vision being in favour of it.
