The city’s Algerians held a demo yesterday: their countrymen have been demonstrating against the regime of Abdelaziz Boutefika, president since 1999. Rue Frontenac has an interesting feature this week on dictatorships on the brink which offers explainers for Algeria and a number of other regimes that are seeing popular uprisings inspired by Tunisia and Egypt.

It’s high noon, do you know where your shovel is? A medium-sized snowstorm is coming our way this afternoon and overnight with Montreal expected to get 7-14 cm and more for other areas of Quebec.

You know, I’m beginning to suspect the Gazette is doing this to see if I’ll post about it. This brief piece about “three vehicles torched in Villeray” describes incidents on de Lorimier at corners with des Carrières, Rosemont and Dandurand – all in Rosemont-La Petite Patrie borough, not in Villeray. Look folks, the borough maps are all downloadable in PDF format from the city site. It’s not rocket science.
