The Alouettes’ Walter Spencer is out of danger after getting stabbed in a bar brawl earlier this week, but no news on when he will play again. Quarterback Anthony Calvillo is also expected not to play this afternoon against Hamilton (and, later note, his replacement did an OK job as the team quashed their opponents 27-6).

Since most people won’t be reading The Métropolitain, I recommend Alan Hustak’s criticism of the Tories’ plan for lots of new jails as required reading this weekend.

He’s a proud Quebecer and French-Canadian and I suspect his 4 children are partly the result of his belief in older Quebec traditions of large families. I worked with him for a couple of years and other than his 4 children he really does lead a pretty exemplary low-impact life.

Le Devoir has an interesting piece today looking back at the Eucharistic Congress of 1910 and a public debate about language and religion that took place in the midst of the festivities.

actually, i’m happy to report that the mdd at ste-catherine/clark is well-advanced: they’re pouring the fourth story (of five) this week. and proof! http://www.mtlurb.com/forums/showpost.php?p=97169&postcount=216
a small aside: it blows me away that this building happened while 2-22 didn’t. if, a year ago, i’d had to lay odds, i’d have put that one at 100/1. montreal is a very strange town.
