Entertainingly snarky description of a 747 bus ride to Trudeau.

Canada lost ten thousand full-time jobs in July and the signs are that all kinds of employers prefer to keep workers hungry with short-term part-time gigs that don’t involve benefits or other kinds of commitment. But wait – that’s a statistic! That’s a Statistics Canada number! Not something the current government has any truck with.

However, signs are that the federal government is floundering as statistics – damn those inconvenient facts – are showing a flagging support for the Harper crew. Harper’s going to try for a cabinet shuffle maneuver soon. Now what we need is some credible leadership on the opposition side…

Kate, love your blog but detest the your spin whenever it comes to federal politics, which is becoming more and more common. When you told Fagstein and I quote “I don’t usually link to provincial or federal politics unless it’s something with a direct bearing on urban affairs” did you really mean “I don’t usually link to provincial or federal politics unless I can find something that makes the Conservative government look bad.”

Things get slow in the summer and sometimes the only news worth a remark is political news outside my usual ambit.

I don’t have to make the Conservative government look bad. They do it for themselves.

A café on rue Dante was hit last night with a Molotov cocktail as someone attempted to revive a fashion set last winter. Nobody was caught, and damage was minimized.
