Nice piece about the cats left behind at Blue Bonnets after the horse trainers left, although the suggestion that the woman’s attentions to the animals are unwanted should be taken seriously: she may show up one day and find that security has simply taken them away to be put down.

A must-read about the Harper government’s fighter plane purchase and what’s wrong with it.

Why is the Harper government still popular? I don’t get it.

It seems to be major news that Serena Williams is not coming to the Rogers Cup next month in Montreal – there are reports from all over. The Globe and Mail looks at another contender who will be here.

The folks at imagine (le) mile-end managed to get a report on yesterday’s Saint-Viateur closing event without a drop of rain in it.

An American writer comes and eats his way through Montreal (like so many small U.S. news media sites, it’s not immediately clear where this paper is located, but a bit of digging says Charleston,
NorthSouth Carolina); as a counterweight, Spacing runs some quotes from its survey, some of which are less than sparkly-eyed about the city.-

Surely you meant Charleston, SOUTH Carolina.

A man was seriously messed up last night when lightning struck a tree in Hochelaga under which he and his wife had planned to watch the fireworks. The photo accompanying the La Presse version of the story is well done, but has nothing to do with the incident.

The storm was really intense – knocked out power for about an hour or so. I saw a bolt hit the ground not too far from here… Given that there aren’t that many tall buildings around (besides the big O and the tower of a hospital to the east), being anywhere near a tree / park out here is a risk during a lightning storm.

I love this article, thanks for posting it. I’m surprised that this woman had to pay for 60 cats to be neutered out of her own pocket, aren’t there any organizations in Montreal to take care of such things (I don’t live in Montreal, BTW, that’s why I’m asking) ? I wish I could help but I live in Europe.
