    Despite promises from Quebec, ER wait times have grown longer with an average 17½ hours throughout Quebec and, in Montreal, an even longer wait – over 20 hours. Basically, if you go to the ER for anything that isn’t instantly life-threatening, you pretty much have to plan to move in for the duration: think of it as a long bus or train ride, bring food and drink and something to while away the long hours while you wait.

    The heat wave collapsed with a short but intense storm last night involving lightning and hail and (from where I was, anyway) a rainbow. Some folks lost power, others only lost their internet connections for awhile. And a house in Hampstead was struck by lightning and burned: no one was home but the three dogs inside were rescued from the fire.

    “[The fire operations chief] was at a loss to explain why the house lit on fire” ? Well, there’s a mystery.

    On Spacing, Alanah Heffez notes the removal of the trees that were originally planted at the de Maisonneuve end of the Place des Festivals. La Presse also talked about this last week. Trees would just get in the way of the project, as they did nearby behind Place des Arts.

    Concordia is holding a festival of Montreal-related films over the weekend, offering at least a chance to see Montreal Main on the big screen although they missed an opportunity to show Lies My Father Told Me.
