Spacing has a nice piece with photos about urban cottages and shoebox houses, always a charming sight on our residential streets. Chris De Wolf looked at what he calls hobbit houses a year ago, and Spacing even covered the demolition of two Villeray shoebox houses and their replacement by condos back in 2007. Above is my photo of a pretty little shoebox house on a very short street in Villeray, which has also since been replaced by something more bland (but much more flashily “architectural”) with two storeys.
