Not directly sparked by the Laraque sacking, but I’m hearing tweets and other scuttle adding up to this: Might it not be time for a new general manager for the Canadiens? The Bob Gainey régime hasn’t produced a Stanley Cup or even a team with cohesive spirit, and this year’s wavering between Price and Halak hasn’t done the team any favours. New owners, time for a new GM? Worth thinking about.
I still think the unceremonious and undeserved banishment of Saku Koivu is a blot on the team’s recent memory. -
The Régie du logement is recommending rental increases of 0.8% for those of us renting unheated, and even suggests that rental decreases might be appropriate in some cases. Predictably, landlords’ groups are ticked.

There are not enough rooming houses in Montreal and those that exist are often in terrible shape, and a homeless defence organization would like to see this remedied. Often the only home a poor person can afford is a single room in one of these places – it’s either that or the street.
