Roads and water mains get a boost from the city's 2008 budget, tabled yesterday. Most taxes won't go up, but some boroughs have added surtaxes and fees.

The budget also contains a lot of money for public transit – more than any other Tremblay budget has done. But the monthly STM pass edges up from $65 to $66.25 (and tickets from $11.75 a strip to $12) in January, the seventh fare increase since 2002. The good news is that service will be improved with more buses and metro trains running, especially at off-peak hours.
