Contradicting yesterday's reports, the federal government
is denying it has plans to
scrap the Champlain bridge and replace it with a ten-lane superbridge. Authorities also maintain that the existing bridge is safe, and not a collapsing wreck as was implied yesterday. I suspect this was a deliberate canard to distract anyone commenting on Car-Free Day, which as usual successfully
cut pollutants to nearly zero in its tiny corner of downtown.
