Fallout of the crack of doom

Repairs on the thousand-tonne concrete slab at McGill metro are likely to take months, closing de Maisonneuve (and delaying the completion of the bike path) and sparking a legal struggle between the city and the Bay. A La Presse editorialist remarks on the situation that, in the emergency, nobody could produce complete plans of that part of the underground city – as a forty-year patchwork of public and private edits, it's a work in progress, but no one was responsible for overseeing the condition of the structure as it evolved. That will have to change, because clearly relying on building owners to carry out inspections is not working out.
