Journal de Montréal has a series this weekend on pollution in Montreal, the
health problems experienced by people living near oil refineries and factories, the
unknown toll some toxins take on the human body and the
6000 deaths in Canada annually that can be blamed on it; the simple
filth that's spewed out of some factories; the people who are
leaving the more industrialized east end; at least Montreal has
stricter air quality standards than the rest of Quebec, and Shell and Petro-Canada, the city's major polluters, are
trying to cut back on emissions.
